THE SEERAH FOUNDATION

"Time to Pray" & "Who is Allah"

Over my Kickstart placement with the Seerah Foundation in 2022, I worked alone in adapting their children's books into animated films. I created all the visuals in "Time to Pray" from concept stages to final animation on my own and once done, I was trusted with reanimating a few shots from "Who is Allah", which was a film the organisation never finished in 2020. This was an incredible experience and I am really proud of what we were able to create.

Final films to be released soon.

Time to Pray

Time to wake up. Time for Fajr. Make your Wudhu and go to the Masjid. A rhyming story to teach children the benefit of prayer. It's important to show this vital part in the life of every Muslim, in an accessible way. We can't overestimate the value of prayer.

An animated story for children about Salat based on Suzanne Stone's children's book from 2009 of the same name.

UNIVERSITY

One Quiet Day

A story about homophobia and self confidence featuring an Elf and a Dwarf. Our degree film was an ambitious and successful exploration into harsh narratives through a fantasy lens. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, we were unable to finish the film, but what we did manage was still an incredible piece of work that I am proud of myself and my team for being able to pull off in uncertain times.

Perhaps in time I'll revisit these characters and ideas.

The Lone Komainu

I pitched this idea to my class based on a Lion Dog Statue I saw in the Manchester Museum and it was chosen to be created by myself and my friend Richard. Completed during second year in little under a month, Richard and I created this aesthetically beautiful story of connection and loss between two Komainu spirits.

I will always have a soft spot for this film and am always tempted to revisit the idea because now I think it could be even better.

Arvid

A story created during second year on my own in response to the theme of rituals. Our hero, Arvid, is tasked with preparing the tree for the "Topping" ceremony done to appease the forest for using trees but he forgets one crucial piece and the Green Man emerges.

I had about a month to finish this and I think it's great for what it is. I wish we had more time to be able to have smoother animation and coloured characters, but I was incredibly ambitious and did what I could!

Before

Less than a month was a running theme throughout university, and that was the most stressful here. We had to pitch ideas then some were chosen to be created by small groups. This was my idea featuring Margaret and her long lost lover Owain who returns from the dead.

Once again, this is a proof of concept that I'd love to revisit as Maggie became a bit of an icon over my time at uni, she even makes an appearance in One Quiet Day.
